Science Giants: Paracelsus

On this day in 1541, the Swiss physician Paracelsus died. He was one of the first people to understand that chemistry could be used to make medicines and to understand the human body. He also held some traditional beliefs. For example, Paracelsus thought that the human body is controlled by four elements: earth, air, fire, and water.
