Potato Chips Invented
In 1853, Native American George Crum was a chef in Saratoga Springs, New York. A dinner guest at his restaurant ordered French fries. When they were served, however, the guest complained that they were too thick and sent them back. Crum prepared batch after batch of fries, but every time the guest refused them. Finally Crum cut the potatoes as thin as he possibly could and fried them to a crisp. Soon everyone was asking for the house specialty: potato chips.
