Rachel Carson, Marine Biologist
On this day in 1907, marine biologist Rachel Carson was born in Springdale, Pennsylvania. In 1932 Carson began work at the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries. She studied the ecology of the sea. She wrote books and even radio shows to help people learn about life underwater. Her most famous book is called Silent Spring (1962). Public reaction to the book caused the U.S. government to start testing how chemicals can affect plants and animals.
