Science Giants: Sally Ride

On this day in 1951, American astronaut Dr. Sally Ride was born in Los Angeles, California. She studied English and Physics in college, but decided to become an astronaut after reading an ad in a newspaper. Ride was the first American woman in space, when she flew aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1983.
