April 3
Happy Birthday, Jane Goodall!
On this day in 1934, Jane Goodall, the world's foremost authority on chimpanzees, was born in London, England. Beginning in 1960, Goodall spent nearly ten years observing chimpanzees in the Gombe Stream Chimpanzees Reserve in Tanganyika, Africa. For more than thirty years, Goodall has continued to do anthropological research, and her discoveries about chimpanzees have contributed significantly to scientific thinking about the evolution of human beings. In 1984 Goodall received the Wildlife Conservation Prize for helping people to understand the importance of wildlife conservation on Earth.
