Science Giants: Yuri Gagarin
On this day in 1934, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was born near Moscow. He trained in the Soviet Air Force before becoming a cosmonaut. Gagarin was the first person to orbit the Earth. His trip, on a spacecraft called Vostok 1, lasted only 108 minutes, but it made him a hero in his country.
