Science Giants: Joseph Priestley
On this day in 1733, Joseph Priestley was born in Yorkshire County, England. Priestley spent most of his life studying chemistry and was noted for improving scientific work with gases. Priestley discovered several gases, including ammonia, sulfur dioxide, and a gas he called "dephlogisticated air." This gas was later renamed oxygen.
