Science Giants: Dmitrii Mendeleev
On this day in 1834, Dmitiri Mendeleev was born in Tobolsk, Siberia. He learned chemistry while working in his parent's glass-making factory. He was interested in the structure of elements, especially gases. In his research, Mendeleev discovered that different elements could be organized by the weights of their atoms. His discovery, called the Periodic Law, allowed Mendeleev to create the Periodic Table of the elements.
