Three Inventors Create the First Transistor

On this day in 1947, three inventors John Bardeen, William Shockley and Walter Brattain created a device that could change weak electrical signals into strong ones. The device was the first transistor. Transistors are commonly used for radios, and they are also used as switches in computers and other electronic devices.
