X-rays Discovered!
On this day in 1895, German scientist Wilhelm Roentgen made an important discovery. He was studying what happens when electricity is put into a container of gases. Some photographic plates in his workshop were mysteriously ruined during his experiments. After many tests, Rontgen understood that energy rays produced during his experiments could be used to see through solid objects, including his wife's hand! Because he didn't understand how they were created, Roentgen named these mysterious rays "x-rays".
