"Cool" Idea Nabs Award

On this day in 1998, Krysta Morlan received the prestigious Lemelsen-MIT High School Apprenticeship Award for her Cast Cooler. Morlan got the idea for her invention when she had to wear a full-leg cast for almost a year.

The Cast Cooler provides relief to people wearing casts in hot weather by sending cold air through a tube into the cast. The Cooler is powered by a 9-volt battery.
