1,288-year-old Seed Brought Back to Life!

In November of 1995 Jane Shen-Miller announced a startling discovery. She had succeeded in getting a 1,288-year-old lotus seed to germinate and grow!

Shen-Miller brought back lotus seeds from a dry lakebed in China. She filed through the hard shells of several of the seeds and was amazed to find that they sprouted in only four days, after having slept for more than thousand years.
