Gene Pool

Should research be done on the human genome? Find out more about studies being done on genes, and what scientists hope to discover. How can understanding the function of genes help in the early detection and treatment of certain medical conditions? How does this knowledge impact people who discover they have the gene but are not yet showing signs of the condition? What if scientists could "fix" the problem gene? What if scientists started altering genes for cosmetic purposes, such as to give a baby blue eyes instead of hazel? Consider medical benefits and ethical questions regarding "engineering" human genes. Then write a newspaper editorial explaining your position on human genome research. State your opinions clearly. Back up your opinions with facts from your research.
