Scientists pulled living sponge cells completely apart from each other and left them floating in what looked like a sponge-shake. They observed that sponge cells can do something incredible if the cells themselves are not damaged. As the living cells touch each other, they can start reforming the sponge.
Talk about science that isn't fiction! It's just one reason scientists study sponges. Maybe someday it will help us understand why some cells in the human body become skin cells while others become muscle cells. |
