Have you ever given your friend an electric shock?

When you rub your feet across a carpet, you pick up negative electric charges. When you touch your friend, extra negative charges on you jump toward the positive charges on your friend.

This happens because opposite charges attract. You see a very small spark when the negative charges jump to the positive charges.
