In France there is another important source of information about how certain extinct animals looked: cave drawings that are more than 30,000 years old! These drawings tell scientists about animals that used to live in southern France. They show the animals playing and fighting. They show what color they were, including patterns such as spots and stripes. The drawings tell us many things a fossil could not.
