Many cars have airbags that pop open in a crash. A special piece of equipment in the car senses a sudden slowdown in speed. The equipment sends electricity to a heat source. The heat causes a chemical change, and the airbag opens. Airbags keep people in the front seat from hitting the hard parts of the car.
